Assessment [1b]

Asda FM

Asda FM is a radio station that is  designed to be played specifically in all Asda shops so that shoppers have something to listen to while they are buying their goods. It is also good at promoting products and helping customers part with their money.

The target audience for Asda FM is going to be varied depending on the time of day because during the day there are going to be more kids around with their families whereas later at night the shoppers are more likely to be older. The audience that Asda FM broadcasts to consists of up to 18,000,000 people.

The purpose of the Asda FM radio station is to make the shopping experience more enjoyable to the customer that is in their shop. Also some people might actually enjoy the type of music that is played so much that they might decide to go and choose Asda over other competitors (such as Tesco).

Asda FM plays a variety of music so that it is suited to all of its customers whether they are teenagers or the elderly.
The Top 40 charted songs are more based around the younger group (16 - 25) which probably makes up for a big group of shoppers at Asda. The Classics are played so that the middle aged and elderly can enjoy some music every once in a while but not as much as the top 40 charted. I think that the songs are more going to be pop orientated as pop is more of a casual music genre than say rock and it will generally just appeal to more people.
During the daytime, the station has been described as sounding like a blend between Radio 1 and Radio 2

The style / genre / format of music doesn't really change that much depending on who is likely the store. I think that maybe after like 9:00pm more adult music comes on as it is unlikely that younger people will be shopping at that time but I don't think that music would change all that much.

I think that Asda FM is doing well at targeting their audience and keeping them appealed while they are shopping due to them choosing a wide variety of music which can cater to all groups that enter the shop.
