BBC Radio 1 is a radio station that is aimed towards people of age 15 - 29. People who listen to Radio 1 are going to be living in and around Britain. The type of music is orientated towards people who like charted pop music of the 21st century.
The music format for BBC Radio 1 is Top 40 Charted Music. The reason this format has been chosen for this age type is because chart music is generally listened to by 15 - 29 year olds and they are the majority of the people that determine what goes on the top 40 charts.
During the day, the music that is played generally depends on the specialist program that is playing, however most of the time the music playing is either the top 40 charted music or music that people have rung in to hear.
There are multiple music shows that play in the evening, for example, on Friday there was; 18:00- Evening more music, 19:00- Annie Mac, 21:00- Pete Tong, 23:00- Skream and Benga.
On the weekends, there is a broad range of shows that are played, this includes: BBC 1's Essential Mix, BBC 1's Dance Anthems, MistaJam, BBC Introducing with Jen and Ally.
I however, don't believe that this station caters effectively for all the scenes and music liked by young people for many reasons.
One reason why I don't believe this station caters effectively for all the scenes and music liked by young people is because it mainly plays charted top 40 singles. This means that the radio station doesn't fully cater for people who like less known musicians and styles of music.
Another reason why I don't think this station caters effectively for all scenes and music liked by young people is because most of the songs it plays are mainly pop or r&b. This means that people who are into other music genres are going to be left out and will have to listen to another radio station.
Another reason why I don't think that this station caters effectively for all scenes and music liked by young people is because all music that's played is modern (released after the year 2000) and some people in this target audience might prefer older music released before this time.
Overall, I think that Radio 1 is appealing to a big group of their target audience through their use of modern day top 40 songs however I think a lot of their target audience is also using other radio stations because they prefer songs that won't be played through radio 1.

Radio Questionairre
I generally don't listen to radio stations. When i want to listen to music i just use grooveshark because i don't like the music on most radio stations and it allows me to bypass any advertisements.
However, if i am in the car my mum generally puts on Heart
The music that is played on heart is generally music in the top 50 charts.
I am yet to find a radio station that suits my tastes as i haven't really looked around
